Summer Institute for science teachers

The Ecosystems of Kansas Summer Institute is an immersive four-day professional development program for middle school and high school science teachers hosted by the Kansas Biological Survey at the KU Field Station. The 2026 program is scheduled for June 2–5. Application period March 1–31.

The KU Field Station is just 20 minutes from main campus and is equipped with a wide variety of settings and facilities to accommodate classes from all fields of study.

Nature Trail system

Our five-mile trail system, minutes from town yet a world away, is open to the public dawn to dusk every day. Interpretive signage at three trailheads and along the Rockefeller Prairie Trail helps tell the story.
